SPOKES an active campaign group set up to encourage cycling and publicise its benefits. We are based in the East Kent area of the UK but have an interest in better conditions for cyclists everywhere.

We publish a free quarterly newsletter in which we air our views and the views of others on cycling issues and ensure its widest possible distribution. You can read the latest edition here as well as recent back issues.

We also organise a full programme of rides and cycling events in and around Kent to be enjoyed by ordinary people.

Kent County Council are now in the process of implementing the Cycle Tracks Act to extend the Oyster Bay Trail westward from Reculver Country Park to Swalecliffe. This means that the following footpaths will be legally designated as cycle tracks:

Footpath number	Description
CW41	From where it joins the Promenade at Coastguard Cottages for a distance of 705m in a westerly direction.
CH53	From its junction with Ocean View and Reculver Drive in an easterly direction for a distance of 62m.
CH56	From its junction with Ocean View and Glenbervie Drive in an easterly direction for a distance of 570m.
CH56	From the eastern end of Bishopstone Lane in a north easterly direction for a distance of 28m.

Plans of these can be seen in Canterbury City Council's Canterbury, Herne Bay, and Whitstable offices.
